About Us

Nottinghamshire Unemployed Workers Centre is an independent Voluntary Organisation based in Mansfield which has been providing a free Welfare Rights and Money Advice Service to people living or working in Nottinghamshire for over 10 years. The organisation was formed originally by the Trade Union Movement in Mansfield to deal with the social and economic consequences of the closure of collieries in the Nottinghamshire and surrounding coalfields. Since then the organisation has developed into a registered Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee operating from premises close to Mansfield Town Centre. Our Trustees, who are also Directors of the Company are drawn from a range of statutory and voluntary organisations operating in the local community.

We currently employ 8 staff and have 4 volunteers who are are able to help clients with:

  • Welfare benefits (eg Job Seekers Allowancet) from help with completing forms to representation at Tribunals;

  • Money advice - from general information on how to handle debt to representation at County Court and above if necessary;

  • Making contact with other specialist voluntary and statutory organisations offering support and advice to people in financial difficulty

Nottinghamshire Unemployed Workers Centre is supported by: The Legal Services Commission, Nottinghamshire County Council, Mansfield District Council and the Severn Trent Trust Fund.
