Welcome to the Nottinghamshire Unemployed
Workers Centre Website. We are a Charitable Voluntary
Organisation providing free welfare rights and debt
advice to people in Nottinghamshire.
On
our website you can find out more information about
our organisation, our staff and volunteers and the
services that we provide.
Our
Organisation has its origins in the closure of the
collieries in the Nottinghamshire Coalfield in the
1980s. As a response to the social and economic
disruption brought about by the closures, the Trade
Union Movement in Mansfield set up what was then the
Mansfield Unemployed Workers Centre principally to
ensure that redundant mineworkers were able to access
the financial support available to them through the
welfare benefits system. Since then, the organisation
has expanded to provide advice to all Nottinghamshire
residents irrespective of their employment status and
not only limited to welfare rights issues but also on
debt matters. We also provide a Court Representation
Service.
Our
reputation for providing good quality advice has been
acknowledged by the award of the Legal Services
Commission Special Quality Mark for our Welfare Rights
work.
Whether
you need help accessing the welfare benefits system,
are struggling to deal with creditors or you are
facing
repossession or other legal action, we are here to support you and to
share our expertise with you.
